Hello Readers,
Of all the varieties of today’s pollution, noise and constant din is probably the most uncomfortable and toxic to live with.
Much of the time we are exposed to noise, distractions and disturbance to our peace. Despite all this, there are also lots of people who actively seek out the hustle, bustle and chaos to prevent themselves being alone with their thoughts because its so much easier to bury their emotions with nervous chatter or constant fidgeting. They dislike looking at their reflection in the mirror because they don’t particularly like what they see. And neither do they want you to see what they can see.
Living, as we do, in an age of high pressure and expectations accompanied by bluster, whirlwind relationships and surreal scenarios, most success is measured by superficial achievements and those that come at any price. Some people dream of becoming rich and famous and so position themselves in front of cameras, microphones and loudspeakers. They want to be seen, heard and admired by the whole world and will stop at nothing to reach the top. A case of anything goes at any price. But all noise is relative. For example, In a busy city it’s the screeching, honking, bleeping and roaring of traffic, jet planes and the hustle and bustle of people going about their business, but in a monastery it can be the simple scratching noise of a pen writing on manuscript parchment that can speak louder than words.
It’s not possible to function properly without occasional peace and quiet.
Its vitally important for our wellbeing to take time out for contemplation, meditation and isolation away from the madness of the outside world. Calming the mind creates space for new insights and ideas to start bubbling. The imagination functions much better when you don’t have to speak with people for a while. Have you ever heard the wonderful silence just before the dawn? It can be so quiet that you can almost hear other people’s dreams. This is when new plans are hatched and new ideas suddenly become exciting. We gradually begin to see our way clear out of the smog and mugginess that is going round and round in our heads, blinding our vision and clogging up our thinking as to which direction to go in next. Never be afraid to put some healthy distance between you, a subject or a person that is causing you discomfort. Just take a few steps back and gradually you will begin to see and hear with greater clarity and accuracy. When we stop for a few moments and think more slowly and carefully, we give ourselves the chance to see life from a different perspective.
It is said that actions speak louder than words, but it’s only actions that actually speak. Those who sleep in continual noise are often awakened by silence, and of course, there are always the empty vessels rattling around that tend to make the most noise.
Peace, quiet and open air, there is nothing quite like it to compare.
Love and light,
Linda and The Lulas xxx
