Hello Readers,
Did you know it takes just a quick glance, maybe as little as three seconds for someone to evaluate you when you meet them for the first time? During this short time the other person forms an opinion on you based on your appearance, your body language, your demeanor, your mannerisms and how you are dressed. With every new encounter your are evaluated and yet another person’s impression of you is formed. These first impressions are impossible to reverse nor undo. Making those first encounters memorable that create an excellent first impression of you are extremely important, for they set the tone for all the relationships that follow.
When you have arranged to meet a person for the first time they are not interested in your ‘good excuse’ for running late. I always plan to arrive early and allow flexibility for any possible delays in traffic or taking a wrong turn. Hands down, arriving early is always better than arriving late and good punctuality is the first step in creating a good first lasting impression.
Whatever anyone says, physical appearances do matter because the person you are meeting for the first time does not know you and how you present yourself, when they first set eyes on you immediately gives them a clue on what he or she has to go on. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so the ‘picture’ you first present says much about you to the person you are meeting.
One of my favourite mantras is that it takes just as long to dress smartly as it does to just throw something on that makes you look unkempt and self negligent. It is also considered disrespectful to the person you are meeting for the very first time.
These days, there are no excuses for looking scruffy and slovenly. Why on earth would you desire to give anyone the impression that you are lazy and simply cant be bothered, because its too much trouble?
There is an exception to the rule however. Sometimes we are caught short through no fault of our own. Its not always possible to look fabulous when drenched by the rain, blown about in a gale, or as I once found myself, I slipped and fell in ground sodden mud whilst walking The Lulas, these things happen sometimes so my recipe is simple….Smile and broadly as possible and make a joke of it all. Just laugh at yourself and whoever you are meeting will no doubt start laughing with you. There is always a solution to all problems. You just have to look for them, its as easy as that. Smiling is a winner! Smile and the world smiles too! Project a positive attitude because your attitude shows through everything that you do and none of us ever gets a second chance. Its that all important first impression that stays with us and other people that counts. You just have a few seconds to make a good first impression, so its worth giving every encounter your best shot!! Much of what you need to do is based on common sense, but with a little extra thought and preparation, you can hone your intuitive style and make every first impression not just good, but great!….and spectacularly memorable.
Its the secret of how well a job interview will go and securing a much desired career or business position, or a first meeting with a date who could just turn out to become the love of your life.
Until next week,
Love and Light,
Linda and The Lulasxx
