Hello Readers,
Reading a book can be one of life’s greatest blessings because you can lose all sense of time, all worries, if only for a short time. Once you learn the joy of reading a whole new world of discovery opens up and you will never look back.
In order to grow, evolve and develop the mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it’s to keep its sharp edge. No matter how busy you may think you are, you must always find time to read a few paragraphs of a chapter because you can always return to your book later and carry on where you left off. A home without books is alike a body without a soul. There is nothing else that furnishes a house quite like books sitting in their book cases, waiting to be chosen and read that will transport you, as if by magic, to a place you have never before experienced. The right book for you is not one that thinks for you, but one that makes you think. If you have a garden and a library, then you have everything you need.
You need never feel alone with a book. They are the quietest and most constant of friends, the most accessible and wisest of councillors and the most patient of teachers. You can read about people you can never be nor meet and enjoy adventures you can never have. You don’t need magic to disappear, you need a destination and a book will provide everything you need to transport you to another time, world and place.
The best advice I ever got was to keep on reading and learning. From a very young age I developed a passion for reading books that has served me well all my life right up the present day. I describe myself as a workaholic and always have several books on the go at any one time. I keep them by my bedside, on my desk and in my car. When go out I always take a book with me because a few moments with a cup of coffee and a read is my idea of heaven. My family and I are all passionate readers and so are my closest friends. We cannot go past a book shop without venturing inside to see what fabulous purchases await us. If a book has your name on it, then it is meant to find its way to you. There is always room for higher learning, self-development and studying. There is nothing worse than finding yourself left behind because you showed little or no interest in learning anything new. People who read will always have something to converse about because even if you find yourself stuck in the company of strangers, you can always talk about a book you have enjoyed reading. In my philosophy, ignorance is not bliss because ignorance disarms you and sets you apart from other people. Once you learn to read you will develop confidence and the art of good and interesting conversation. No matter what your status in life, how rich or poor you may be or how lowly or successful you are, a person who is a lover of books is the richest and the most happiest. The first time I read an excellent book, I felt as though I have made a new friend because sometimes a little bit of reading is the only therapy that is needed. A book is a companion. Interestingly, someone once told me that if you read a lot, you are considered well read, but if you watch a lot of television, you are not necessarily considered well viewed.
There is nothing to stop anyone from borrowing or exchanging books with their family and friends, except themselves. There are also lots of places where free books are available to read and there are many Book Clubs around that are free to join. On a positive note this is also a fabulous way of connecting with other like-minded people and forming new friendships. These clubs can be found online and also held at numerous Bookshops all over the country, so no one need ever feel stuck in a rut, because there are always people out there to meet and chat with where you will discover you have much in common.
The more things you read the more you will know and the more you learn the more places you will go. When we are collecting books, we are accumulating knowledge, wisdom and power.
There is no such thing as too many books, only not enough bookshelves.
Until Next Week,
Love and Light,
Linda and The Lulas xxx
