Hello Readers,
You only get one body and it is the temple of your soul. If you treat your body with love and respect, nourish it, feed it, exercise and value it, it will serve you well for decades. However, if you abuse it, be prepared to suffer poor health, a distinct lack of energy and feeling under par.
Taking better care of your body will make a huge impact on your daily performance both at work and in your personal life. The amount of people I meet who even proudly boast that they ‘don’t do breakfast’, the most important meal of the day, have obviously no idea what harm they are doing to themselves. They skip meals because they think it’s a sure way of losing weight, and yes, to a point, that is true, but when our body and brain is starved of nourishment, it’s difficult to function efficiently, mentally, physically and emotionally, because when blood sugars start to plummet to a very low level, everything irritates us, affects our moods and its then so easy to say and do things that are later regretted. Not eating properly will eventually affect your looks and cause premature ageing to the whole of your body. I am a big believer in drinking lots of water, green vegetable juices, always keep a well-stocked fruit bowl, take lots of vitamins, use tons of body and face moisturiser to feed my skin, both daytime and night time and most importantly, get plenty of rest and sleep. This is imperative if you are going to stay as well as you possibly can.
You don’t need money to keep fit, well and reasonably mobile. You just need to walk. It’s not necessary to spend big money on posh gym membership. All you need to do is walk. There is a gym very near to my home, so ‘The Lulas’ and I walk to the gym and then we walk home again. It’s that easy. The only difference between walking and paying to go on a treadmill is that whilst walking you are taking in the scenery and perhaps stopping to chat to someone you know, popping into a shop for milk, papers and bread or just strolling along, you are not going round and round like a hamster on a wheel getting nowhere fast, but both ways of exercising are excellent. Anything is better than developing into a lazy couch potato. The Lulas and I take a good walk between 3 and 5 times a day because we need to get out of the house, enjoy a change of scenery and inhale some good oxygen into our blood stream. The Lulas run like the clappers around the field I take them to and I just walk at a nice steady pace. I also swim daily because this keeps me in good physical order. I honestly think my joints would be close to seizing up if I did not do my exercise routine. Those who make excuses about not having enough time for even a little bit of exercise and improving their diet are not doing themselves any favours and will sooner or later pay the price. A person who is too lazy to take care of their health is like a mechanic that is too lazy to take care of his tools. Health is like money, we never have a true value of it until we lose it. From the bitterness of disease, people learn the sweetness of health and what it means to be able to enjoy life.
‘He who takes medicine and neglects diet wastes the skills of his doctors’ (Chinese Proverb)
Until Next Week,
